These documents name instructional content priorities in mathematics (K–8, high school) and ELA/literacy (K–12). These were developed for the 2020–21 academic year in response to the disruption of the global pandemic of COVID-19.* They provide guidance for the field about the content priorities by leveraging the structure and emphases of college- and career-ready mathematics and ELA/literacy standards. They are intended to help publishers, other designers of instructional materials, and instructional leaders find new efficiencies in the curriculum that are critical for the unique challenges that have resulted from school closures and anticipated disruptions in the year ahead, keeping at the forefront principles of equitable instruction.

Overview: The Introduction to the Instructional Practice Guide for Mathematics module focuses on the Instructional Practice Guide (IPG) as a tool for observation and reflection. The Instructional Practice Guide is for teachers, and those who support teachers, to build understanding and experience with instruction aligned to college- and career-ready (CCR) standards, including the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The module also includes a review of the three instructional Shifts in mathematics. Within the module, there are activities and discussions based on the Core Actions that will prepare participants to use the Instructional Practice Guide. 

Objectives of this Module:

• Understand the key Shifts for mathematics and what they look like in practice.
• Identify teacher and student actions that are present in CCR-aligned lessons, as identified in the Instructional Practice Guide.
• Observe a lesson using the Instructional Practice Guide.

This resource bundle aims to support teachers in creating LGBTQ+ affirming classrooms by walking teachers through building their own knowledge, creating their own why, assessing their school readiness for implementing LGBTQ+ affirming instructional resources, and offering literacy and math instructional resources for teachers to try out as they get started. This bundle highlights the importance of working through individual learning and mindset before bringing new content and practices into the classroom. The resources in this bundle are mostly geared towards elementary teachers, but we hope to build upon and expand this resource collection to serve K-12 grades based on input from teachers.
